Dynamic, inspirational and sexy. These are some of the words used by the industry to describe ‘The Brotherhood of muk’ show at the HairBiz Forum 2014. As the opening hair show for the day, muk certainly set the pace with their celebration of men’s hair that spanned decades in fashion and style.
Mark Gariglio, Director of muk Haircare, introduced a talented trio of men’s platform artists who showcased their own individual styles to a captivated audience. The show stoppers included Justin Borg from New York, Director of Education muk Haircare USA; Uros Mikic from Kinky Curly Straight in South Australia and Ash Weller from AWells Hair Artistry also from South Australia, who is Australia’s undisputed leader in hair art and tattooing.
Mark said about the creative of the show, “In 2006, muk Haircare started with one single product, Hard muk Styling Mud. Over the years we have evolved into a multi-faceted unisex brand, however, with our start in male grooming, we decided to pay homage to the sadly forgotten art of barbering. And rather than a traditional, dare I say boring education session, the ‘Brotherhood of muk’ show was created to be more of an on stage party celebrating men’s hair cutting and styling.”
The show opened with a dynamic performance by the multi-cultural hip hop dance group, the ‘Academy of Brothers’ from Brisbane who got the crowd excited. From there the guest artists proceeded to take it back to the old school showcasing their own style of traditional barbering including skin fades and tapers incorporating groomed styling and textured looks. The presentation was then taken to the backstreets of NYC with uber cool hair art and tattooing from Ash Weller.
The finale was a showstopper with all three guest artists onstage completing the haircut and styling on one male model, each adding their own individual style and technique to create a finished look. As Justin Borg said, “Being a part of the ‘Brotherhood of muk’ was one of the best experiences of my career. The show enabled myself, Uros and Ash to showcase the high performance of our skills and the muk product range. Not only did we click on stage and off, we all shared the same passion in showcasing the creativity behind men’s barbering and styling whilst working with great range of Australian owned products.”
